I really like the graphical wordpress theme you are using for http://www.davedays.com/ You have really stretched some stuff to make that work!

Where could I learn how to do something similar? Do you have a recommendation for a starting template or a design process that works for you?

No, Buddypress doesn’t work with Drupal. But Drupal has its own options for social networking.
